A slum in Chennai, India. Home of the discarded, the starving, and now also the home of a desperate tsunami refugee camp. Here survival often means selling a kidney and Hema, a young mother of two, needs to pay off her crippling family debt. If she sells her kidney, she would be the fifth member of her family to have done so, for an amount that represents several year's wages. Across the world in Nanaimo, Canada. 40-year-old single mom Sandra's has been on a waiting list for a new kidney for 5 years. Her condition has left her chained to a dialysis machine, four times a day, every day, if she is to live. To find a kidney, someone has to lose one.
