John Webster is going on a carbon emissions diet, and he’s taking his reluctant family along for the ride. They agree that for a whole year they will take drastic measures to reduce their carbon footprint, boycotting any products made of or wrapped in plastic and forfeiting the use of their petrol car. In the attempt to maintain their cosy middle class suburban lifestyle, the Webster’s give us a workable demonstration of what the individual can do to avert climatic catastrophe on a personal level. Unfortunately for John, however, his well-intentioned plans not only test the family’s values, happiness, and will power, but often stretch his marriage to near breaking point.
