Moving to Mars follows two Burmese families over a period of one year. Displaced from their homeland by the repressive military junta, they are forced to work in a Thai refugee camp several years to survive. A relocation program offers them a fresh start in the British city of Sheffield, an endeavor that will radically change their lives completely. For a family from Burma, the move to England is like a move to Mars. Mat Whitecross takes an intimate look into the relocation of families, their often humourous collisions with parts of British society, and at the same time illustrates the humanitarian consequences of political unrest in Burma.
