Director Adrian Maben examines the life of "Comrade Duch", president of the worst Khmer Rouge torture prison in Phnom Penh. With Duch's trial is in full swing, Maben films the tense Cambodian population and the belated process of truth and reconciliation aired live on television. The examination of Duch's life sheds only little light on the issues raised. Nevertheless, "Pol Pot's executioner" represents an essential part of this terrible period of recent history and is a testament to the madness of totalitarianism, so rarely expressed with as much force and urgency.
