documentary Equador/Chile, 2010 Blu-Ray, 93 Min. (OmeU) by Carla Valencia Dávilla
Topkino 7.00 p.m. / Kleiner Saal
Young Ecuadorian documentary filmmaker Carla Valencia Dávila had two very special grandfathers. Juan was active in the political struggle within his country and murdered by the Chilean military dictatorship in 1973. Remo, sought immortality and healed many terminally ill people with his personal remedies. Valencia Dávila talks to those who knew them: patients who were miraculously cured by Remo, and people who knew Juan as a dreamer, an activist, and a martyr. She introduces the audience to the dreams of two men who preceded her on the capricious, unpredictable path of life and the result is an intimate film about family, the history of Ecuador and Chile and chasing universal dreams.
Audience Award (Encuentros del Otro Cine, EDOC, Ecuador, 2010) Honorary mention for best documentary (CINESUL Festival Iberoamericano de Cinema e video, Brasil, 2011)
